We like to start the engagement with reviewing or drafting the fiduciary committee charter. This is the foundation of the committee’s retirement plan oversight responsibilities and procedures. It includes the company’s appointment of the fiduciary committee, the background and experience of its members, identification of training requirements, documentation requirements, and the process for updating or the rotation of committee members. The charter also defines which fiduciary responsibilities will be retained and identifies the expertise needed from outside of the company.
