Investment research is conducted to identify managers, that at a minimum, meet the profile defined in the investment policy (IP). After the initial screening is performed, managers that meet the IP criteria are further filtered, and ultimately, several of the top screened managers within a sub-asset class are compared to determine the best fit for the plan.
